Why We Obsess About Our Bodies
Taylor
So I was looking in the mirror earlier today, standing sideways to analyze my body and make sure that the wine and cookies that I enjoyed this past weekend didn't somehow cause my to get a gut. I know it sounds ridiculous and I know that one or two days of poor eating isn't going to mess up my physique but I also know that I am not alone in doing the mirror study. It's something that as a woman, we just do.
But why? I don't see my husband standing in front of the mirror every day looking at his stomach, sucking it in and pushing it out in front of the mirror... so then why do we do it?
It's because we've been led to do it, how many magazines have you read that states how your weekends can wreck your body? How many images of you seen of flawless actresses that makes us feel... flawed?
We've all been there. But here's the thing, everyone is flawed. Even those actresses and models. Just take Adrianna Lima... do you know how hard to works to be the best Angel for Victoria Secret?
Sure she has a great body but she has to bust her butt to look as hot as she does. I've also decided lately that we waste too much of our life wishing we had a better body and not enough time just being healthy and enjoying life. Here's the conclusion that I've come to... life is about being happy. I don't know about you but worrying about the 3 glasses of wine I had Saturday night and the Christmas cookie that I ate simply isn't worth it at the end. I want to enjoy these things guilt-free! And you should too. Remember, eat clean 90% of the time, and give yourself some slack the rest of the 10%. I work hard in the gym so that I can enjoy my favorite foods. No, I might not have a perfect six pack but I have had one and let me just tell you the work that has to go into maintaining it is more work that even I am willing to give. Not to mention that I make everyone miserable around me because I am miserable too! Life is short, make healthy decisions with your food, workout with a great plan, and enjoy life. Forget the Monday morning stomach stare down. If you just live the Art of Weight Lifting lifestyle then your stomach will look just as fabulous come Monday as it did the Friday before! You're not flawed, our media is. It makes me so angry when they try to tell us what is pretty. Is a size 2 any more gorgeous than a size 8? If you're fit and healthy and you feel good when you think about yourself then you're golden!
