Men Treated Worst Than Women In The Modeling World?
Taylor
I've really never thought about it to be honest, but someone passed an article on to me with that title and I instantly went "huh, it's true I've never seen a plus sized male model". There are plus size female models of course, and it seems women love them. These "plus sized" models generally aren't plus sized at all but the size of the average American woman. Yet they get tattooed with an unflattering label. Let's face it... no one wants to be "Plus sized". But what about men? Why don't we ever see Jack Black figures modeling off boxer shorts like we see women advertising their plus sized bras and panties. Here's what the article states:
"Women's 'plus size' is based on the fact that curves can be sexy," he writes in an e-mail. "The equivalent of curves on a man is a beer gut and love handles and that's not sexy, unless it's the movie Hitch or something with Jack Black"What do you think? Do you think men should be proud to show off their football season bodies? Is the male modeling industry worst than the women's in terms of showing off unrealistic bodies? The average male model is 6 ft 1 inches tall and has a waist of 32 inches.
Sure there are a few big and tall models but even still these are most of the time athletes that are just tall and muscular. Still not the average body of the American man. And for these guys, the modeling life is not often a complete one. Most big and tall male models have other jobs on the side simply because they can't get signed for enough gigs. I simply found this article thought provoking and wanted to share it with you. Definitely gave my husband and I something to discuss during dinner.
