How To Tone Your Body: 5 Things You Must Do

Every woman wants to get toned, but few women know how to actually make it happen. As a personal trainer, I feel like it's my responsibility to help shed some light and make sure that you're steered in the right direction to help you achieve your fitness goals.

How Can You Tone Your Body?

Most women go wrong because they simply don't know the best style of workout for toning. We've been pushed to think that as a woman, we should be on a treadmill running off the pounds or walking the neighborhood each night after dinner.

The sad thing is that the walking/running method is not going to build sexy lean muscles and that is exactly the definition of getting toned. On top of the lean muscles relying solely on cardio workouts is the slowest way to burn body fat, and trust me, you will also lose muscle mass in the process.

So let's dive right in and go over exactly how you do tone your body. Learning the right methods now will save your from months, or even years of disappointing results.

Forget what you've been doing.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results. If what you are doing now hasn't been working then it's not going to suddenly start. It's time for a new game plan.

Look away from gym machines.

I've stressed the importance of strength training for women, but not all muscle moves are created equal. You may think that those machines spread around the gym floor are going to be the answer, however they are not. Weight machines first off work one single muscle, or are isolated... to get a great workout you would have to use every machine in the place. Talk about time consuming. Also, have you ever worked out on those and went "wow, I really felt the burn"... most likely not because they don't burn as many calories as you could if you turned to free weights.

Grab a weight.

That brings us to free weights. If you're completely new to strength training then starting with body weight exercises is a suggestion to learn proper form for progress. But unlike the machines, when you use free weights your body has to work to stabilize the weight and to stabilize itself. Not to mention the range of motion is great and you'll be able to work several muscles with a single exercise. Good examples include: squats, lunges, push-ups, bench press, and even pull-ups.

Full body all the way.

Maybe you've seen people in the gym dividing up their workouts. One day they do chest and back, another day legs... but for the ultimate fat burning workouts it's best to do total body workouts. Total body workouts allow you to hit your biggest muscles in your body which also means you will burn the most amount of calories. Trust me, do you really think spending 30 minutes working your biceps is going to burn as much fat as if you worked your legs, arms, back, and abs? Nope. But make sure you have a workout that is designed to achieve results. There is a science after all to all of this.

Eat to match your goals.

No matter how great your workout plans are, if you're eating junk then you're not going to tone your body. Unfortunately eating counts for around 80% of how your body looks. While it seems unfair, it's life. To tone up it's important to look at your current diet and make some tweaks. Do you eat processed foods? Then it's time to nix these... do you find yourself eating huge meals? Not enough meals? Eating clean is going to do the magic, basically it means eating whole grains, lean meats, healthy fats and avoiding the simple carbs and other foods that you know are bad for your waistline.

Following these 5 tips is how you tone your body and get the results you really want. It takes motivation and dedication which clearly you have. Don't put it off another day, get started today and start seeing results!
