Coca-Cola's Drive Towards Improving Our Health
Taylor Ryan
I happened to come across a news article not too long ago with the title: Is fitness level more important than body weight in boosting heart health?Of course it caught my attention, so I read through it. In the study, 14,000 men were studied over a time period of 11 years. They were assessed on treadmill tests, had their BMI calculated, and underwent 2 physical exams during the study. Here's what they found:
Interesting study, and while I do agree that physical activity is critical
to a better health, it can not be denied that proper diet and a healthy weight is equally important. At first I was surprised that not more was discussed until I found this: "The study was supported by the National Institutes of Health and by an unrestricted research grant from The Coca-Cola Company."Why would Coke spend their money on health research? Because this sort of research supports them! It shows an area of science that makes it seem as if weight is not super important. And since there is no denying that Coke affects weight (significantly) then this study actually supports them. What isn't shown in this research is that BMI is related to diabetes, cancer, depression, and a hundred other health issues, but of course that isn't covered. What's your take??
