Public Articles: So Many Proteins To Choose From... Which One Should You Choose?
Dan Boyle
Protein has to be the most popular supplement ever. So many different people take it...
- non-athletes
- weight trainers... people like us!
- athletes
- anybody who gets the nutrition kick
I have been looking to try a new brand because I am looking to pack on some weight and the most important factor for me currently is... Calories. This is followed closely behind by Protein, and then the servings per container. What can I say... price and servings matter. Calories are the most important because they will directly influence the amount of weight you can add and if you go overboard on those calories, you will likely add a lot of body fat. So you need to watch the calories and also watch your goals because that will influence how many you should take. Protein is next. I want as much protein as I can get, but I also don't want to much. I personally believe that you should not eat more than 1 g of protein per 1 pound of body fat. To much protein can be very detrimental to your system. For example, there is this one protein that I was about to use made by the Muscle Milk guys. It is called CytoGainer and has 550 calories! Talk about a lot of cals.... but the kicker here is 56 grams of protein. That is a ton! I would easily go over 1 g per 1 lb of body fat. So that is out of the question. Then you have these proteins that only have 150 calories per serving and 24 g or protein. Currently my favorite is still just regular Muscle Milk. 300 calories and 36 g of protein. Good balance! So just to wrap this up, choosing a protein depends on your personal goals. If you are a weight trainer then you definitely need to take some regardless and you need to keep it in the range of muscle milk.
