Lesson 2 Are you a saint? My guess is probably not… which means you can't always stick to a perfect diet. But that shouldn't keep you from trying… I have put together this list of 6 AWESOME clean eating desserts that will please you and have your taste buds screaming for more… 6 Clean Eating Dessert Options A natural question that is asked when people consider eating clean is, "what can I have for desserts?" It is natural to crave something sweet every once and a while. If you didn't give into a craving you would probably go crazy and would give up on healthy eating days after starting. There are plenty of healthy dessert alternatives that still fits into the clean eating limitations. They offer a ton of health benefits, aren't processed and are easily obtainable. Many desserts are going to be fruit based. Fruits are packed with fiber, vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants. Plus their sweetness will please any sweet tooth. Here are a few great after dinner desserts for when you are relaxing on the couch or sitting out on the back deck.
- Frozen fruit pops
Grab a few pieces of your favorite fruit and using a blender or food processor blend it up into a puree. Pour into ice trays, stick a popsicle stick in each and set in the freezer to freeze. After a few hours you will have homemade, natural fruitsicles. Great fruit options include: mango, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, peaches, bananas and pineapples.
- Angel food cake
A great alternative to other cakes. Angel food cake is low in calories, sugar and fat. It is mostly egg whites which is why it is so light and fluffy. If you drain a can of shredded pineapple and throw it into the cake batter before pouring into the cake pan you will have a great tropical version with tons of great flavor. - Frozen whey pops
This goes along with the fruit pops but instead of the fruit you can blend up a protein shake and pour into the molds. Once again add a stick to each one and allow them to freeze up. They will taste like yummy pudding pops. If your craving won't give your time to allow for the freeze, just blend up a great shake. - Baked apples
If you are in the mood for a pie go with this one. Slice up an apple or two and place on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon and a 2 teaspoons of brown sugar (regular granulated sugar would work too), grab a graham cracker and crumble on top of apples. Then, bake it all at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until apples are softened. - Cream cheese rollups: this is easy and it was my favorite in college.
Using a whole-wheat wrap spread a layer of fat free cream cheese (very thinly) and then a thin layer of sugar-free jelly (I like Smuckers). Then roll it up and go to town. It is like a mini-cheesecake. If you want you can toast it up a bit before serving. For many people make rolls and cut them up like pinwheels. - Frozen yogurt: this is a great alternative to ice cream.
You just have to make sure that the yogurt you get doesn't have high fructose corn syrup. If you like you could even buy nonfrozen regular yogurt. Then take it home add some pureed berries or other fruit and stir it all together. Then stick it in the freezer. In no time you have frozen yogurt, nearly homemade.
