Burn Stomach Fat Course Lesson 2 We have established that stomach fat is a pain, and I am going to give it my all to teach you how to be painless... The body produces several hormones that actually contribute to body fat, more specifically to belly fat... one is cortisol. Cortisol is released for several reasons... stress, lack of sleep, and sugar. That is right when you pour a tablespoon of sugar into your morning coffee the body will react by increasing insulin and cortisol. Leading you to (drum roll) belly fat. Of the options, it is time to give up on sugar and try something else. Give Up On Sugar and Unnatural Sweeteners, Go Grab The BEEautiful Honey Unlike granulated sugar and the unnatural sweeteners that most Americans use, honey is a great nutritious sugar replacement. Sugar is an empty caloric item, offering no real nutritional value and other sweeteners are made out of complicated chemicals, none of which sound as if they are good for the body. I am not saying you can never sweeten your food again, but there is a whole other option. Honey. That's right, bee's honey. Honey is made by nectar that bees collect from the flowers of plants. It is sweet, delicious and has numerous health benefits. For thousands of years, the Chinese have used honey to treat sore throats, coughs, allergies, wounds and who can deny an almond butter and honey sandwich? They were on to it long before anyone else and to this day China is the largest honey producing country. Your grandmother was definitely on to something when she handed you a mug of hot tea with a drizzle of honey. When it comes to coughs, honey is better than many over the counter cough suppressants. No more wasting tons of money when you can spend a few bucks on a jar of honey. I use honey most as a topper to my plain oatmeal to give an extra burst of flavor. It also works great on top of my Greek yogurt (I hate plain Greek Yogurt). It is much smarter than grabbing for the Splenda or eating yogurt flavored with high-fructose corn syrups (check your labels).
Plus, did you know that it jammed packed with antioxidants? Honey is actually equal to the antioxidant power found in oranges, strawberries and apples! Talk about being protected for the long term. Honey is great. In terms of treating wounds, honey has an antibacterial and antifungal effect. Have you ever thought of using it to exfoliate your face? If mixed with sea salt or oatmeal that is exactly what you can do. Many people agree that if you can find locally harvested honey from your community, it may help decrease seasonal allergies you may suffer from. That's not all. When taken with a calcium supplement, honey appears to help increase calcium absorption. No weak bones for you! And if you want to know the label information well, you don't have to wait any longer. 1 tablespoon of honey has 64 calories. While this is more than calorie free sweeteners, the health benefits make up for it. Plus, you will probably never need a whole tablespoon, honey is much sweeter than you may think. Additionally, there is 0 g of fat, 0 cholesterol, only 8mg of salt (sodium) and 11 mg of potassium. Not bad numbers for all the perks you get. So what foods are made better with honey? Oatmeal
Cooked carrots (carrots are not evil)
Yogurt
Fruit (apples, melon, bananas)
Tea and coffee These are just a few ideas, I am sure you can think of hundreds of other ways to use your honey. Make sure to go with all natural honey to avoid any additives. Also, the darker the honey the more nutrient packed it is. My personal favorite honey is the North Carolina honey I always get on the way to my grandparents' house. It comes with a piece of the honeycomb and taste fresh and amazing. But keep in mind that like anything, moderation is key. Never load up on it to assure servings are reasonable. I always stick to under a tablespoon and include it in the food journal for accurate logs.
