This time of year everyone gets into a furry trying to lose the winter pounds so they can feel comfortable in a bathing suit. Not that I can blame you for wanting to look better when you are out in public and standing half naked, it something all women are self-conscious about. And I know that you have been working out hard during the winter and may not even apply to this article, but if you are like the majority of women, you probably are going "where did the time go? I only have a month or two left to get these pounds off and toned!" If you are the latter, then I want to make sure you are doing the makeover the safest and most effective way possible. Here is the list of does and don'ts to stick with to assure you are really going to reach your goals without harming your body.
- Don't stop eating: This is number one because it is normally the first tactic women turn to for fast weight loss. NO, NO, NO! Cutting drastic calories (never cut more than 500 calories out of your diet) not only slows your metabolism, it also makes the body turn towards your muscle for energy. That means you keep fat an lose what you are trying to gain: muscle.
After you reach your goal weight, you will probably increase your calories back up pretty quickly. The downside of that is regaining what you just lost because your metabolism was slowed so much. EAT! - Don't think cardio is the only answer: This time of the year you see women walking and running like the energizer bunny. They keep going and going with the idea that the more cardio they do, the closer to their bikini bodies they will get. Sorry, but nope.
Cardio is great, especially for interval training. But after around 25 minutes your body switches from fat burning to muscle burning to get you to the end. And there goes your hard earned muscle. Keep cardio routines to 2-3 times per week and no longer than 25 minutes. This is hard to believe for many, but trust me. - Do go to the weight room: I cannot say it enough… weight training is key for woman to get their dream body. Perks include: increased metabolism, increased fat burning abilities, toned muscles, increased strength, and closer to your beach body. Plus there are so many varieties and exercises that weight training will never get boring.
- Do Eat 4-6 meals per DAY: This might sound like a lot but eating every 2-3 hours keeps your internal calorie furnace (metabolism) going on full blast. Instead of 3 big meals keep meals at around 200-300 calories. Make sure to load up on fruits, vegetable, lean proteins, complex carbs and unsaturated fats.
Avoid fast food, anything with fructose corn syrup, and if you can even eliminate processed foods all together. - Do water all day long: I carry a liter water bottle with me all day and am constantly filling it up. Keeping the body hydrated will help you go drop the pounds faster because your body is more efficient. It also helps flush the body so you are not bloated and carrying water weight.
If you use lots of salt you might want to cut back if you are noticing bloating. If you are drinking enough to keep urine clear or light yellow then you are doing great. I am not suggesting drinking so much that you are constantly running to the bathroom. - Don't go crazy summer dock parties: I know we all love sitting on the dock sipping on a margarita or chilled beer but if you are serious about looking your best just say no. These are loaded with sugars and calories. I won't even go into how many calories are in a margarita, just take me word for it. For beer, chose a light beer and stick with 1-2 drinks or grab a glass of wine.
Use these tips to help you get the bikini body you want for that beach. You will look so hot that your confidence will be going crazy.
