Mental Toughness Course To Keep Burning
Lesson 2

Push through it. If you are serious about getting a kick ass body, then you have to work for it. That means working when you may not want to. Throwing on the gym shoes when all you want is veg out on the couch. But too bad. That is why the next lesson is...

"I'm Too Tired" Should Never Be An Excuse To Keep You From Accomplishing Your Goals In The Weight Room Or Out

You may use the excuse "I'm too tired" for some personal activities, but it should never be used for exercise.

Talk about tired... yawwwwnnnn!
Talk about tired... yawwwwnnnn!
There have been many of days when I just am exhausted and the last thing I want is to go home, put on my workout clothes and shoes and head over to the gym. Sure, it would be great to just plop down on the couch, enjoy a glass of wine and forget about the workout I already had written down and sitting by my front door.

But that's just it, I have my workout planned, my shoes and clothes already laid out, and all three items are staring at me almost mocking me. "What a lazy sissy," their hackling screams. And the sad thing is, they are right. I don't need the wine, and I can sit and relax when I go to bed tonight.

Their persistence wins, I change and head over for my workout. I always end up having a great workout on these days. I guess its all mind over matter. By the end I am more energized than before and proud of myself.

Being tired should never keep you from doing what you need to do. Most Americans are tired but we do what we have to. There are only two things that should ever keep you from some sort of workout: sickness and death in the family. Notice, I said some sort of workout, of course things come up (travel, friends/family events, etc) that will keep you from having a top notch workout, but these can be overcome to throw in some physical activity.

One of the major perks as mentioned above is that exercise actually boosts energy and decreases fatigue. It sounds strange that using so much energy would in turn increase your energy buts its true. Exercise is even more powerful than a power nap. Research has shown that it also improves a person's fatigue more than the medicines used to treat narcolepsy and ADHD.

With this info, the next time that you are feeling tired you should want to get started on your workout. I am sure you have too much to do and being tired is just not in the cards.

Here are some tips to ensure your tired body does not win over your workout:

- Do not go home. Pack your gym bag, take it with you to work and head straight to the gym. Home is always the main battlefield and the best way to avoid a war is to stay out of the zone.

- Have your things packed and ready. If you go to workout first thing in the morning, or after a long day of work, always have your bag packed and clothes picked out the night before. Having them starring at you is the worst form of nagging.

- Have a partner. A workout partner is great because it means someone is relying on your butt to be there. Do not let that person down by being "too tired." You might mess up their workout too.

- Make a new play list. I get really excited when I have something new to take with me to the gym. Changing my music is probably the best because I can not wait to listen and I do not let myself listen to my new songs before the gym so it's a surprise. Also, when I get new clothes/shoes I get excited to try them out. I can never be too tired.

- Post reminders. Put up little workout reminders and motivational quotes around your house. When you look at the fridge or the bathroom mirror, you will find the motivation to hit the weights.

- Happy day! If you can go workout on all your planned days during the month, go ahead and reward yourself. You deserve a tread (not a fudge sundae) but think massage, shoes, date night, etc.

Being tired is not something many people will have sympathy for. All of us are tired at some point during the day, but it should not be an excuse not to take care of yourself. You will feel accomplished, because you have accomplished what you set out to do. Laziness is a workout sin.

Awesome... we are moving right along to the final lesson to get you mentally prepped for the workouts and fitness challenges ahead. Of course you will be stressed at times, but it is how you deal with stress that will help get results.
