Do you mentally prep before you walk through the gym doors? If you are like most of the gym going population, I can guess the answer is a big fat no. And that is what could keep you from reaching your full potential. You would never walk into a meeting without a little preparation and same goes. But it is easy to get ahead of the rest of the crowd by spending the time it takes to brush your teeth to think about your upcoming sweat session. A "Not So Discussed" Key To Making Each Weight Training Session A Great One Take time to visualize. Your success, your workout, your dream body.
Making each time you enter the gym a great workout is not always easy to do. Unfortunately things in our daily lives affect us and until we get our minds completely off of things that are bothering us, our performance suffers. Making each trip to the gym is more than just having a plan... The real key is visualization You may not have heard or read too much about this before, but visualization puts you in the gym before you ever actually get there. If you can visualize yourself having a great workout and setting new levels, then the chances of it happening are greatly increased. It is proven in studies when athlete's brain behaves exactly the same between visualizing their sport and actually playing their sport. Either way your brain really does not know the difference. You body does because you don't have to move, but the important part is your brain thinks it is real. They even measured electrical signals that were sent to the athlete's muscles. Pretty incredible huh? So how are you going to use visualization to help you make each weight training session the best?
- Before you go into the gym, look at your plan for the day
- Go through each exercise in your head. If you can go through each rep and see yourself just destroying it... great
- Try to feel the feelings and see your workout done in perfect time
- See yourself recovering fast and having tons of energy
When you go through and break down your workout and visualize each part, your mind and body will be mentally ready to do great. Here is my example... I will try to write what I picture when I visualize myself squatting...
- First I imagine myself flexible and loose... I don't want to be tight at all
- Then I almost see myself as if each muscle was flexing... really I just imagine myself stronger than I really am. I also have perfect standing posture as well as squat posture.
- I literally see myself picking getting into position and picking up the weight. As I go down the weight seems light and I go all the way down until my thighs are parallel to the floor.
- I easily explode off of my heels and while maintaining perfect balance, I reach a fully standing position.
- I imagine myself whipping off 12 of these with ease... even though I will cringe. Just for effects.
That is more or less what I personally do for each exercise. Sometime I will visualize right before I do a particular exercise, but I always try to do it. It makes a huge difference in the results I see when I perform. So next time you are going to step into the gym, mental picture what you are going to do and exaggerate how well you are going to do it... that will boost your confidence and make you perform better. You just might see actually results a lot faster because you are making the most of your 30 to 45 minutes. You now have the diet, the workout and the mental knowledge to become an easy-gainer!
