Probably one of the most desired results in the entire fitness universe is the ripped body. A lot of people want to be the bodybuilder type, but a TON of people want to have the slim, muscular body. I hate saying this because I am not a Hollywood fan, but I guess you can call it the Hollywood type body.

If you are a guy, you want to have the broad shoulders, defined chest, ripped arms, and the most desired six pack. If you are a woman, you long for tight defined arms, slim mid section with a six pack, muscular toned thighs and butt, and tight rigged calves.

We all want this dream body that makes us feel incredible, and although it does take work, you are easily capable of achieving it. Here are 3 surefire secrets to help you in your new lifestyle towards a ripped up body.

1. Body Fat

No this is not stating the obvious…

You have to understand even after spending years lifting weights and eating healthy, you can still not be ripped because of body fat. I am sure you see guys like this all over the place at your gym. They have some pretty good size to them, but you can tell they are not ripped. It is probably their diet that is holding them back.

It is a good thing you don't see too many women like this, but how about those guys that have the huge shoulders, workout all the time, but still have the gigantic beer belly. Yep, too much body fat.

While the percentages differ, in order to be ripped like you want, men need below 12% body fat to really show ripped muscle. Women need below 19% body fat to show ripped muscle.

So the moral of this is your body fat is one of the major keys to you having that ripped body you have always wanted. In order to really monitor the progress you make and ensure that your body fat never gets too low or high… I recommend you purchase a body fat scale.

These scales are really not too expensive. I think I bought mine for $40. They are great though because they tell you a whole lot of information besides just body fat. My particular scale also shows water weight... which is helpful in making sure you get enough water in your diet.

Back to the body fat... how do you eliminate the body fat?

2. Weight Training

Now you understand that you need to slim down first if you don't want to become a bodybuilder type. If you are super skinny then you may want to go through what bodybuilders call bulking.

Bulking is packing on huge amounts of muscle and fat and then going into a lean phase to get rid of the body fat. Bulking is not necessary to add muscle, but if you are looking to add more muscle faster, then this might help.

90% of people don't want to get huge and women… you will never get huge (scientifically), so don't worry about it.

But weight training is the answer to loosing body fat. Instead of bulking, you just need to weight train. You will grow your muscle mass and that will start to eat your fat. Muscles are the greatest things in your body. They use so much energy just to maintain themselves, that most of the time you have to increase your calorie count. If you cut some of your calories then your muscles will tap into your body fat stores for energy.

That equals less body fat. This is why you will notice that you get skinnier when you weight lift... even though you may be eating the same amount.

Weight training is probably the most fun form of exercise because you see results so much faster and when you combine it with the 3rd secret, you will see results in 30 days or less.

3. Your Food

Yes I know you knew this was coming. Whenever anything is mentioned about weight lifting or just fitness in general, nutrition is right behind. Think about it... on every infomercial one of the bonuses they give you is some kind of recipe guide. To bad most of the recipes they give you to cook are about as elaborate as a 5 star restaurant.

Learning to eat properly is not easy, but if you put forth the effort it will become a habit in no time.

To put it in the barest of forms, if you want to get that ripped body, you need to eat the proper amount of calories. You need to burn more than you consume, but you don't want to consume so little that you body eats its muscle for energy.

You need to eat about 400 to 500 less calories than you burn. This will provide enough energy for you to build muscle mass and also melt away the body fat. With weight training, you will be ripped up fast… guaranteed!

Your nutritional needs are also going to have to be nutrient rich food. That is why veggies, meats, fish, etc... are all recommended. They don't just provide you with the calories and such, they provide you with the vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids you need to truly be healthy.

The 4th secret is not really a secret, but if you want to see any results then you need discipline. Discipline is something that you will notice you build a lot of as you start to weight lift more. If you have been lifting weights for some time now, following more of a structured routine and tracking your results will still build tons of discipline.
